LA GRANGE – The La Grange Lions Club presented a check for nearly $62,000 to the Foundation for Retinal Research on June 1 during the La Grange Pet Parade.

It’s money that could help two local kids retain their sight.

The club raised funds to benefit La Grange’s Patrick and Mirielle St. Arnaud, siblings who were born with severely impaired vision as a result of Leber’s congenital amaurosis, one form of retinal degenerative disease that affects more than 10 million people in the U.S.

The money will specifically fund research of the NPHP5 gene, the gene that affects Mirielle and Patrick. FRR already has restored vision in people with two forms of LCA through gene and retinoid therapy.
