Lemont largely unscathed by Wednesday's storm

LEMONT – Aside from a house fire on Alba, the Village of Lemont saw little damage or road closings from the storm on Wednesday night, according to Lemont Emergency Management Agency Director Thomas Ballard.

The Illinois Department of Transportation closed New Avenue from Cico Road to 127th Street due to flooding, but it has since reopened.

Operations at the CITGO Lemont refinery were impacted by severe thunderstorms, according to a CITGO official, though there were no safety incidents. All production returned to normal within hours of the storms. The only exception is a hydro-treater, which is expected to return to full operation in a couple of days.

Ballard said there were traffic safety officers on Main Street near the quarry to make sure drivers were moving slowly, but the rain ran off too quickly for it to cause flooding problems.

"We were very lucky (Wednesday) night compared to people in other towns," Ballard said.
