West Chicago distributes weather alert radios to schools
WEST CHICAGO – All West Chicago public schools now have weather alert radios, courtesy of the West Chicago Emergency Services Disaster Agency (ESDA), which distributed the radios at the end of May.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather alert radios were given to the schools as part of the ciity's pursuit of StormReady certification from the National Weather Service.
The certification program prepares communities to respond to severe weather through advanced planning, education and awareness. The radios were purchased by West Chicago with the help of a grant from the Illinois Emergency Services Management Association.
