West Chicago police cite 619 traffic violations in May

WEST CHICAGO – Through increased traffic safety efforts in May, the West Chicago Police Department issued 619 traffic citations, according to a news release.

Police efforts included a roadside safety check, seatbelt enforcement zones and saturation patrols, made possible through funding from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The police department also held its fourth campaign focused on seatbelt safety from May 10 through 27. It resulted in 28 citations for seatbelt and four for child restraint violations, according to the release.

The campaign was funded by an IDOT grant that allowed for additional hours dedicated to enforcement of child restraint, seatbelt, speeding and alcohol-related traffic laws.

A fifth campaign will run from June 28 until July 7.

The West Chicago Police Department also will join IDOT, the Illinois State Police and more than 500 local law enforcement agencies in the statewide "Click It or Ticket" campaign held during that same time period.

The campaign will focus on enforcing seatbelt laws to protect drivers during the Fourth of July holiday.
