Police identify four found dead in Darien murder-suicide

DARIEN – DuPage County sheriff's police are investigating the deaths of four family members whose bodies were found Tuesday in their home near Darien in Downers Grove Township.

Jeana Andrus, 48; Jessica Andrus, 22; Jennifer Andrus, 16; and David Andrus, 50, were found shot to death. According to autopsy reports, the women's deaths have been ruled homicides while David Andrus' death was ruled a suicide.

No further information was provided this week by the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Dawn Domrose said officers were called to the home in unincorporated DuPage County on a report of a disturbance about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The situation appears to be an isolated incident with no danger to the public.

Authorities haven't revealed what may have led to the murder-suicide, citing an ongoing investigation.

The incident occurred at 555 Oldfield Road, and police had blocked off the street near Oldfield and Robert roads Tuesday.

Oldfield Road was mostly quiet about 8 p.m. Tuesday night as neighbors went back inside their homes and just a few passers-by slowed down in their cars to witness the scene.

"It's pretty scary," said Darien resident Margaret Chadwell, who lives nearby.

Other neighbors said they ventured outside their homes when they saw police activity late Tuesday afternoon.

"I got here at about 5:15, and it was just lit up with police cars and helicopters were in the sky," said Linda DeFranco of Darien.

The home where the bodies were found is located about a block from where the Kramer family was murdered in their home in March 2010. Jacob Nodarse, formerly of Countryside, pleaded guilty in the fatal shootings of Jeffrey, Lori and Michael Kramer. Johnny Borizov of Willow Springs was convicted last month of orchestrating the murders.

Jessica Andrus, one of the deceased, is a class of 2011 alumna of Hinsdale South High School, while Jennifer was a current student in the class of 2015, said Principal Brian Waterman.

"On behalf of Hinsdale South, we would like to offer our sincere condolences and thoughts to the family and friends of Jennifer and Jessica during this difficult time," read a statement issued from the school to the Hinsdale South community.

David Andrus is a descendant of Thomas Andrus, who was one of the original settlers of Darien in 1835.

"The Andruses who live on Oldfield Road are related to Thomas Andrus," said Dean Rodkin, a member of the Darien Historical Society. "To be honest with you, I can't tell you how that lineage goes."

Thomas Andrus settled along an old stagecoach line, which was roughly where Interstate 55 was in 1835. He opened the Andrus Inn, was justice of the peace, served as town clerk and was county commissioner.

David Andrus and his family lived about a block north of Andrus Road, which was named after the founder. Their home had not been passed down through the Andrus family.

"As far as the people who live on Oldfield, I'd never had any contact with them," Rodkin said.
