La Grange’s Cela Creations transitions into full boutique

The window display at Cela Creations has attracted customers from across La Grange Road, owner Angela Casaccio said. The store transitioned to a full women's boutique last year.

LA GRANGE – Women dining in restaurants across La Grange Road have noticed the window display at Cela Creations – and then made a point to visit the boutique.

Angela Casaccio wants everyone to know Cela, 77 S. La Grange Road, no longer can be categorized as just a bead store. Last year, Casaccio, the owner, turned the store into a women’s boutique. In addition to jewelry – some of it made by Casaccio herself – Cela now offers a palette of women’s clothing, from modern to eclectic to boho, which fills up a grand display in the store’s windows.

“Women dress so different now,” said Casaccio, who added she likes to have a mix of styles available. “They can have a sequin top with a pair of ripped jeans.”

Cela also carries a line catered to special events, such as weddings, graduations and proms. High school students often will bring in their dresses to find a complementary piece of jewelry.

Since its remake, Cela has seen many customers who expect the prices to be out of their range, said Kelly Contant, the store’s manager.

“I think they’re really surprised that it’s so trendy and affordable,” Contant said.

Want a full outfit with jewelry? Contant said she can put one together for as cheap as $70.

Before people can notice the prices, however, they have to make it to the store. Cela is starting to shake its label as a jewelry store, if slowly.

“Its like the Sears Tower,” Contant said. “Everybody still calls it the Sears Tower.”

The store gets its batch of eclectic styles from the latest trends in New York and Los Angeles, where Casaccio travels twice a year to walk the garment districts and pick out styles she wants to carry.

“My whole life, I just wanted my own boutique,” she said. “So I’m living my dream.”

Cela attracts a mixed crowd, from teens to 60-year-olds, Casaccio said, including some men looking for gift ideas. Helping customers find the right outfit or accessory isn’t really work to Casaccio and Contant, who said the two are constantly thanked for being so helpful.

“It’s really nothing to us because we’re shopping with them,” Contant said.
