Cicero to host Puerto Rican Day Thursday
CICERO – The town of Cicero will celebrate Puerto Rican culture and heritage beginning at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Cicero Community Center, 4949 W. Cermak Road.
Free parking is available at the lot adjacent to the Community Center.
State Sen. Iris Martinez will serve as guest speaker. She became the first female Hispanic elected to the Illinois Senate in the legislature's history.
Senator Martinez will speak about Puerto Rican culture and heritage, as well as her own personal experiences as a Puerto Rican American.
The Puerto Rican Day event is part of the town of Cicero's on-going program to recognize ethnic and religious groups, with events celebrating Columbus Day, Mexican Independence Day, Cinco De Mayo, AmericanFest, Houby Day, Greek Independence Day, Lithuanian Day and many more.
