Dukes fall 6-3 to Indians in state semifinal

EAST PEORIA – York's run for a state championship came to an end Friday.

The Dukes lost to Minooka 6-3 in a Class 4A semifinal at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria on Friday.

The Indians (22-8) struck first with a two-run home run from Kelsey Smith in the top of the first, but York (23-15) responded with two unearned runs in the bottom half.

Abby Solem singled in Angela Scalzitti in the second to give York a 3-2.

That lead held until the sixth inning when Jordyn Larsen hit a three-run home run. The Indians added another run in the inning for a 6-3 lead.

The Dukes will play Barrington, which lost to St. Charles East 3-2 in the first semifinal, for third place at 3 p.m. Saturday.
