BROOKFIELD – A Brookfield resident riding a bicycle was hospitalized Tuesday after he collided with a car and cracked the windshield with his head, according to a report with the Brookfield Police Department.

Brookfield police said they responded to the accident at 9:49 p.m. Tuesday at Fairview and Maple avenues. Officers found the victim, 24, laying face down in the northbound lane of Maple Avenue; he was unresponsive, police said.

The driver was emotionally upset and inquired about the victim's condition, police said. He told officers that he was driving northbound on Maple Avenue and that he never saw the victim before the accident, police said.

Brookfield paramedics arrived on the scene and began treating the victim, police said. They transported him to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood where a doctor described his injuries as serious but not life threatening, police said.

The driver of the sport utility vehicle involved in the accident did not seem to be impaired in any way, and the victim did not have any drugs or alcohol in his system, police said. The victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, police said.
