Cicero woman hands over $10K in lottery scam
CICERO - A 60-year-old Cicero woman gave $10,000 to two men in an apparent lottery scam June 5, police reported.
The woman was approached by two men in the 1400 block of South 49th Avenue. The men asked her to do them a favor by cashing in a winning lottery ticket and gave her a phone number to contact a "lottery official" who told her that the subjects needed $25,000 to claim their winnings.
One of the men produced some cash, and advised the victim that they did not have enough money, but that if she could help them, they would give her half of the winnings, according to police.
The men gave her a ride home and she later returned with $10,000 cash and turned it over to the subjects. They then told her that they needed something with her name on it, and when she went back into her home to get it, they fled.
Both men were last seen in what was believed to be a newer model gray or silver Volkswagen Jetta.
