LEMONT – Nineteen chefs ages 4 to 13 brought in 23 entries for Lemont Township’s first Kid’s Cook Off on Sunday at the Lemont Community Center.
Appetizers/salads, entrées and desserts were judged on a scale of one to 30, based on preparedness, creativity and taste.
The winners received a personalized certificate and gift certificates for free kid’s meals from 3 Corners Grill, Front Street Cantina and Jimbos Pizza. All participants received gift certificates from Front Street Cantina and 3 Corners Grill.
Organizer Terri O’Neill-Borders was pleased with the number of participants and how seriously people took the competition.
“To see the excitement and enthusiasm of young kids was eye-opening for me,” she said.
A cookbook with the entrants’ recipes soon will be available soon at the Community Center for a $5 donation to the Lemont Food Pantries. The $5 judging/tasting donation and 50/50 raffle collections at the event also were funds raised for the pantries.
