Wheaton Warrenville South teacher named quarterfinalist for Grammy Music Educator Award

WHEATON – A Wheaton Warrenville South High School music teacher has been named a quarterfinalist for a Music Educator Award given by The Recording Industry and GRAMMY Foundation, according to a District 200 release.

Gordon Krauspe directs the Chamber Singers, Concert Chorale, Varsity Women's Chorale and the Men's Chorale and teaches Rock and Roll History at WWS. He was nominated for the award by former D200 Administrator Dr. Chuck Baker and former student Dr. Annie Huang. Krauspe was one of 217 music teachers – including 14 from Illinois – chosen nationwide from 30,000 nominations for consideration.

The award was established to recognize educators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and demonstrate a commitment to maintaining music education in schools, according to the GRAMMY Foundation website.

One recipient will be selected from 10 finalists to be flown to Los Angeles to accept the award, attend the Grammy Awards and receive a $10,000 honorarium. The other nine finalists will receive a $1,000 honorarium and the schools of all 10 will receive matching grants. The semifinalists will be announced in August.
