VFW celebrates reopening, fundraiser a year after major fire
VILLA PARK – Members of the Villa Park VFW Post 2801 are officially back home at their building at 39 E. St. Charles Road in town following a whirlwind year of devastation, adaptation and restoration.
A fire that ravaged the post's building on May 29, 2012, caused thousands of dollars in damages and rendered the site uninhabitable, but when faced with adversity, the veterans persevered.
The post was formally and publically reopened during a special event Saturday and attracted dozens of community members. The reopening festivities doubled as a fundraiser to help cover the costs of rebuilding. Most, but not all, of the repairs were covered by the post's insurance.
