Fire departments serving Addison, Hinsdale and Elmhurst were among those honored by Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital for providing excellent service during the past year.

The Addison Fire Protection District won the Joseph Hartmann Award of Excellence for rescuing and treating a patient who attempted suicide in July 2012, according to a news release.

The award is presented to a medic crew or fire department that best exhibits excellence in the delivery of emergency care in a pre-hospital setting.

Also recognized were the Hinsdale Fire Department for rescuing a 91-year-old woman from a house fire in February and the Elmhurst Fire Department for determining that a patient who fell down the stairs in December was having a cardiac episode and needed immediate treatment at a cardiac catheterization laboratory.

The departments were recognized May 23 during National Emergency Medical Services Week.
