Bolingbrook Cops on Top of Dunkin' Donuts, raise funds for Special Olympics
BOLINGBROOK – At dawn, members of the Bolingbrook Police Department were perched on top of Dunkin' Donuts, 248 S. Bolingbrook Drive, collecting money for the "Cop on Top" fundraiser.
From 5 a.m. to noon, Bolingbrook police will stand on the Dunkin' Donuts roof while other officers man stations inside the restaurant and near the drive-thru window. All the officers are raising money for Cop on Top, a statewide initiative benefitting the Torch Run and Special Olympics.
The donations will be used to provide year-round sports training and competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities and enhance their physical fitness, motor skills, self confidence and social skills.
Bolingbrook Police Department Lt. Mike Rompa is overseeing the local efforts and said that residents have been very receptive.
"People seem surprised at first, but once they realize that we are raising money for the Special Olympics, they are quick to donate $5, $10, even $20," Rompa said.
