WHEATON – Michael Delaney, 49, of Wheaton, has been sentenced to 55 years in prison for stabbing and killing his neighbor Michael Scalzo, according to a release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

On June 19, 2009, Scalzo and several friends were working in a neighborhood garage, according to the release. During the course of the day, Delaney threatened the group, culminating with Scalzo confronting Delaney around 8:30 p.m. Delaney then proceeded to beat him before pulling a kitchen knife and stabbing him six times before fleeing.

The Wheaton Police Department arrived at the scene several minutes later and apprehended Delaney.

After five and a half hours of deliberation, a jury found Delaney guilty of first degree murder without the possibility of parole. The sentence was handed down by Judge Daniel Guerin.
