Willowbrook's Burns wins state 400-meter dash

Warrior junior races to first place in 48.89 seconds

CHARLESTON – Willowbrook junior Matt Burns won the Class 3A boys track and field state title in the 400-meter dash on Saturday at Eastern Illinois University.

Burns crossed the finish line in 48.89 seconds to earn the state title. He ran a time of 48.73 in the prelims and had the third fastest qualifying time.

The Warrior was also a state qualfiier in the 200. Burns finished 17th in the prelims of the 200 after finishing in 22.52 seconds.
