Florida woman charged after attempting to cash bogus check, fleeing police in Elmhurst

ELMHURST – A Florida woman is in jail after fleeing Elmhurst police last week when she allegedly tried to cash a fraudulent check at a local bank.

About 4:30 p.m. May 24, officers responded to the Inland Bank, 539 S. Spring Road, to investigate a report of a deceptive practice in progress. Rachael N. Laube, 26, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., reportedly was at the bank drive-up window attempting to cash a fraudulent check.

Police said Laube attempted to flee and while driving away, she struck a parked car near Montrose and Saylor avenues. She was taken into custody near Prairie Path Lane and Saylor Avenue after her car lost a front wheel, police said.

Laube was charged with two counts of identity theft, forgery, fleeing and attempting to elude police, driving without a valid driver’s license, leaving the scene of an accident and trespass to motor vehicle.

She was taken to DuPage County Jail, where her bond was set at $75,000. As of Tuesday, she had not posted bond.

She will next appear in court June 4.
