WHEATON - Behind the arm of staff ace Lake Bachar, Wheaton North captured a Class 4A regional title Saturday with a 5-0 win over South Elgin.
The Falcons last won a regional championship in 2010.
Bachar was in control throughout his complete-game performance, allowing just three hits while striking out five.
The offense scored all the runs they would need in the opening inning, pushing across a pair. Ryan Kent led-off with a double and came around to score on an error. Tom Colletti later added a sacrifice fly.
Colletti then put the game out of reach in the fifth with a three-run homer off the Falcons' scoreboard.
Wheaton North now heads to the St. Charles East sectional where the Falcons will play a semifinal game on Thursday.
