CHARLESTON – None of the Riverside Brookfield boys track and field athletes qualified for event finals, but the season ended where they hoped it would: the state meet.

Junior Lewis Rogers was the highest Bulldog finisher in Friday’s Class 3A prelims at Eastern Illinois University. Rogers was 12th in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40.63 seconds.

Senior David Swon completed his career with a 21st-place finish in the long jump (21 feet, 3 inches). Swon also qualified in the triple jump, but didn’t compete in that event at state.

RB had two relays run at Charleston – the 4x200-meter relay, which placed 21st, and the 4x400, which was 25th.

Sophomores Matt Chapp, Mike McCabe and Otis Dortch and freshman Zach Witken ran the 4x200 in 1:35.75. The young relay was just over six seconds off the pace to qualify for the final.

Chapp, senior Andrew Bell, junior Gerrand Moody and Rogers finished the 4x400 in 3:37.20. RB will have high hopes for this relay next year, as well as the 4x400, with three of four runners returning.
