Marine Captain first woman to lead Western Springs Memorial Day parade

WESTERN SPRINGS – Marine Capt. Melissa Ventrone will be the first woman to serve as grand marshal of Western Springs' Memorial Day parade, which VFW Post 10778 will host Monday.

Ventrone, a lawyer, spent seven months in Afghanistan, where her duties included overseeing the operation of an intermediate maintenance company.

The parade starts on at 10 a.m. on Hillgrove Avenue.
