To the Editor: Many issues concerning seniors have been debated in Springfield during the recent legislative session. It is important that our older citizens are aware of what is going on in the Illinois Capitol, and that their voices are heard when these initiatives are being considered.
To make sure this happens, I have formed a Senior Citizens' Advisory Committee, an informal group of seniors that meets semi-monthly with me to discuss questions and share concerns about legislation in Springfield that will affect their lives.
From Medicaid to public safety, we cover all of the hot-button issues and aim to keep residents up-to-date on the latest from our state Capitol. As state representative, it is my goal to be the most open and accessible advocate for my constituents that I can be.
The 77th District that I represent is diverse. Covering both DuPage and Cook counties, it includes portions of Addison, Bellwood, Bensenville, Franklin Park, Maywood, Melrose Park, Northlake, Stone Park and Wood Dale.
Though many communities comprise the 77th District, legislation in Springfield affects them all. If you wish to participate in that legislative process, please join me at my upcoming Senior Citizen Advisory Committee meeting at 10 a.m. June 5 at my district office at 112 N. Wolf Road in Northlake. I hope to see you there.
