IC soccer's run ends in supersectional

Knights lost to Johnsburg 2-1 on Tuesday

HINCKLEY – The IC girls soccer team failed to get to the program's first Final Four appearance after losing to Johnsburg 2-1 in Tuesday's supersectional at Hinckley-Big Rock. Johnsburg scored twice in the first 10 minutes and a first-half penalty kick goal from senior Angela Toritto got IC back within one, but the equalizing goal never came.

“We ran into a very good team," said IC coach Tod Privett. "A team that has a roster that I’m sure everybody plays club. We have two kids that play club full-time. They just quite frankly had a significantly more experienced team.”

IC won a sectional for just the second time in school history, an accomplishment that Privett said none of the players would have believed possible at the beginning of the year.

“Our girls played with a lot of heart and a lot of intellect," Privett said. "To lose by one goal is heartbreaking, but to lose by 10 goals is heartbreaking.

“For our little school with our little roster that’s a heck of an achievement and it’s a credit to our 16 girls.”
