Tea Party protests in front of Downers Grove IRS office
DOWNERS GROVE – Tea Party activists gathered outside of several Internal Revenue Offices in Illinois Tuesday, including Downers Grove's, to protest recent revelations that the IRS unfairly targeted conservative groups.
The protest follows recent IRS admissions that employees inappropriately flagged conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status for additional reviews and investigation. According to the Associated Press, organizations were spotlighted by the IRS because they had the words "tea party" or "patriot" in their applications.
The Illinois Tea Party did not return calls for comment regarding Tuesday's protest.
