BERWYN – Morton West High School was placed on lockdown for precautionary reasons today after an unknown individual reportedly entered the building around 11:30 a.m.

The lockdown was lifted at 1:20 p.m. after police searched the building and a suspect was not found.

According to police, reports that the person who entered the school was armed and was later arrested in Cicero were inaccurate. No weapons were found when police searched the school.

Berwyn Police Chief Jim Ritz said school officials called in the report after an unknown person was seen in the school. Police proceeded to lockdown the school as they conducted a search, but did not find a suspect. Police currently believe the man who entered the school was an ex-student. They are continuing their investigation and reviewing school security footage to create a timeline of the event.

According to a reader on the Suburban Life Facebook page, parents were not notified of today's lockdown by school officials.
