DOWNERS GROVE - With the West Suburban Silver schedule out of the way, Downers Grove North’s baseball team prepped for the playoffs with three games last week.

The Trojans went 1-2, but the win was a big 10-2 victory over Hinsdale South, North’s potential opponent this weekend. Both the Trojans and Hornets would need to win semifinal games, but they could face each other again at 10 a.m. Saturday in the championship game of the Oswego regional.

Against the visiting Hornets on Thursday at Legion Field, the Trojans fell behind 1-0 after an inning but led 5-1 after two innings and 7-1 after four. When Hinsdale South made it 7-2 in the top of the fifth, the Trojans added three runs in the bottom half of the inning to all but seal the outcome.

Joe Provenzano had the big day offensively for North (19-10 overall heading into the postseason). He went 4-for-4 with a run scored and five RBIs. Connor Kopach, Ray Greco, James Sheldon, Jack Goergen and Matt Zabloudil had one RBI apiece and Greco, Troy Southard and David Henson had multi-hit games as North pounded out 14 hits.

Matt Bohanon yielded six hits and a walk over seven innings to earn the pitching win.

The Trojans closed the regular season with a 13-3 loss at Glenbard North on Saturday. The game was tied 3-3 after and inning before the Panthers scored 10 unanswered runs to earn a five-inning win. Southard went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Kopach finished 2-for-3 with a run and Goergen was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Greco was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Provenzano 2-for-4 with a run and RBI and Kopach 1-for-3 with two runs in an 8-5 loss to Providence May 15.
