Prep roundup: TC baseball’s 5-game win streak ends in regional final

BASEBALL

Timothy Christian

The Trojans’ season came to an end in a 7-0 loss to Lisle in a Class 2A regional final at Redmond Park in Bensenville on Saturday. Timothy managed just three hits though Luke Davidson was 2-for-3. The Trojans, which had won five in a row before falling to the Lions, finished the season 8-18.

SOFTBALL

IC Catholic Prep

Aurora Central Catholic scored two runs in the first inning and the Knights were not able to overcome the early deficit in a Class 2A regional final on Saturday. Melissa Gonzalez drove in Lindsey Montoya for IC’s only run. Jessica Conenna pitched a complete game and had nine strikeouts. IC finished 19-11 this spring.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

York

The Dukes pulled off one upset in the Rolling Meadows regional but couldn’t pull off two to win the regional title. York, the No. 14 seed in the Bartlett sectional, opened Monday with a 25-11, 25-22 win over Larkin in the quarterfinal. The next day, the Dukes shocked No. 3-seed and regional-host Rolling Meadows 25-19, 21-25, 25-22.

In the final on Wednesday, York fell to No. 11 St. Charles East after winning the first game. The Dukes’ season came to an end with a 25-21, 22-25, 23-25 loss.

BOYS TRACK

IC Catholic Prep

Senior Tim Hipskind qualified for the Class 1A state meet by taking second at the Lisle sectional. Hipskind crossed the finish line in 50.44 seconds, the eighth-fastest qualifying time in 1A. The Knights’ 4x400-meter relay won the sectional with a time of 3:33.12.

Timothy Christian

Jake Hooker was second in the 300-meter hurdles at the Class 1A Lisle sectional to qualify for state. The senior ran the race in 41.46 seconds.

BOYS LACROSSE

York

The Dukes, seeded fifth in the Lacrosse Cup, beat Notre Dame 14-2 in the first round on Wednesday. York will play St. Francis today in the round of 16.

GIRLS LACROSSE

York

The Dukes’ season came to a close May 16 with a 20-5 loss to Oak Park-River Forest on Thursday.
