CHARLESTON – Lindsay Graham went to state with the goal of running a personal best time in the 3,200-meter run. Instead, the Glenbard East freshman bursting with potential had to settle for fifth place.
Graham, who set a new personal record in the sectional at 10:41.92, ran the two-mile in 10:42.42 on Saturday in the Class 3A race in Charleston. Graham was seeded fifth entering the race and held that spot.
The fifth-place finish is the highest for a freshman in the 3,200 in Class 3A since 2010.
Glenbard West’s Madeline Perez matched her cross country state title by winning the 3,200, crossing the finish line in 10:22.29.
The Rams had two other athletes compete in the preliminaries. Senior Jamie Gradishar tied for 22nd in the pole vault by clearing 10 feet. Sophomore Angela Kerndl was 26th in the 100-meter hurdles.
Peters qualifies for state in 800
Jack Peters was the only Ram to qualify for the Class 3A state meet from the Glenbard North boys track and field sectional last Friday.
Peters won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.34 in a race that included six state qualifiers. The junior had the ninth-fastest state qualifying time in the 800 and will make his first state appearance in Charleston.
