Valley View teachers union approves contract

Members of the Valley View School District teachers union voted and approved a new contract Thursday, according to teachers union president Vickie Sutterlin.

The Valley View teachers union has been debating the issue since July 1, and their last contract expired in August. The union came to a tenative agreement "several weeks ago," said Valley View Director of Community Relations Larry Randa.

On Thursday, the union voted to approve the contract 55 percent to 45 percent, paving the way for Valley View administration to vote on the issue during its next scheduled meeting Tuesday, May 27.

The union overwhelmingly voted down the first proposed contract in September based on salary, higher insurance premiums and changes to the daily schedule.
