District 200 nurse recognized by State Public Health Department

WHEATON – A nurse at Bower Elementary has been recognized by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois Emergency Medical Services program with a special pediatric care award, a report from District 200 Schools said on Friday.

Patricia O'Connor was awarded the Ron W. Lee, MD – Excellence in Pediatric Care Award for her contributions to childhood care. The release said that the awards are given annually by the IDPH and EMSC to recognize those who dedicate themselves to emergency care and injury prevention for children.

Alongside her nursing duties that include developing emergency care plans for students with special needs, allergies, seizure disorders and other chronic conditions, O'Connor has served on the Illinois Terrorism Task Force Pediatric Preparedness Workgroup, the Statewide Pediatric Disaster Surge Plan Committee, the Illinois Brain Injury Association and the planning committee for the School Nurse Emergency Care Course.
