Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital honored for treating heart attack victims
BOLINGBROOK – Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital recently received the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline Silver Receiving Quality Achievement Award, recognizing the hospital’s success in treating heart attack patients.
Each year in the United States, nearly 300,000 people suffer a STEMI, the most severe form of heart attack that occurs when a blood clot completely blocks an artery to the heart. To prevent death, doctors must restore blood flow by by surgically opening the blocked vessel or by giving clot-busting medication.
The award acknowledges Mission: Lifeline hospitals that provide STEMI patients with proper care they need, as quickly as possible. Mission: Lifeline focuses on improving the system of care for these patients and at the same time improving care for all heart attack patients.
