Prep roundup: IC baseball falls in regional semifinal

Danny D'Angelo and Clark Brinkman had a run and RBI each, but the Knights fell to Lisle 7-4 in a semifinal game of their own Class 2A regional Wednesday at Redmond Park in Bensenvile. Eric Orosco and Max Faut also drive in runs. Cruz Ortega was 3-for-4.

The Dukes lost a West Suburban Silver game at Oak Park-River Forest, 2-1, May 10. Brooke Bandy gave up two runs and had seven strikeouts in a complete game, but the offense couldn't give her the run support for the win.

York swept Maine South in a doubleheader on Saturday before returning to conference play with a 7-0 win over Hinsdale Central on Monday. Angela Scalzitti was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and Elena Schwarz pitched a two-hitter. York finished 8-4 in the Silver after dropping a 2-1 game to Glenbard West on Wednesday. Both teams tied for second in the league.

IC Catholic Jessica Conenna had eight strike outs and pitched a four-hit shutout in the Knights 3-0 win over Westmont in a Class 2A regional semifinal on Wednesday. IC, the No. 2 seed, will play top-seed and host Aurora Central Catholic in the final on Saturday.

The Dukes advanced to a regional final with a 4-0 win over Morton on Wednesday. York, the regional host, takes on Wheaton Warrenville South today in the final.

Jake Hooker placed second at the 110-meter hurdles at the Metro Suburban Conference meet at Ridgewood on May 10. Hooker was also third in the 300 hurdles.

IC Catholic
The Knights' 4x100-meter relay team qualified for state out of the Class 1A Lisle sectional at Benedictine University. IC was second at the sectional with a time of 53.42 seconds. The 4x200 relay was second to also qualify, clocking in at 1:53.65.

Timothy Christian The Trojans' 4x800-meter relay team qualified for state out of the Class 2A Glenbard South sectional. The relay was fourth, but ran a state-qualifying time at 10:02.19.

The Dukes went 1-5 at the Fremd Invitational on Saturday. Their lone win was a 25-18, 25-21 victory over West Aurora. York lost to Glenbard West 16-25, 16-25 in a conference match on Tuesday.

The Dukes fell in a sectional semifinal to top-seed Naperville North 18-9 on May 10. York beat Neuqua Valley 14-12 in overtime in a quarterfinal the day before with eight goals from Patrick McKenna.

The Dukes gave No. 2 sectional seed Lyons Township a run for its money in a sectional semifinal May 10. York led 5-4 entering the fourth quarter, but LT stormed back to win 7-5. Carly Redmond scored three goals for the Dukes.

Sam Bode highlighted York's state tournament showing by placing in the top 10 of two events. Bode was sixth on vault (9.1) and ninth in floor exercise (9.35). John DiCianni was 35th on floor. Bryce Simpson was 15th on horizontal bar and 49th on pommel horse.

The Dukes took fourth at the West Suburban Silver meet on Saturday. Brendan Peterson was third at No. 2 singles. Spencer Kost and Jake Shostak were also third at No. 4 doubles.

Timothy Christian The Trojans were second at the Metro Suburban Conference meet over the weekend. Kurt Munson and Gus Psimoulis won the title at No. 2 doubles. Justin Rhiner was second at No. 2 singles.

The Dukes tied for eighth at the state tournament. Georgia Schneider advanced to the quarterfinals before bowing out. Julia Carlson also went 3-2 in singles, making the third round and winning a consolation match. Lauren Liang and Karen Altergott won their first round match in the main doubles draw and won two consolation matches to finish with a 3-2 record. Cori D'Onofrio and Natalie Rizzo lost in the first round, but won two consolation matches to finish 2-2 in doubles.

The Dukes beat Naperville Central 11-7 on Tuesday to give Central its second loss of the season.

The Dukes opened the playoffs with a 17-4 win over Vernon Hills on Monday. York advanced to Thursday's sectional semifinal against Oak Park-River Forest.
