MSC champ RB steals 10 bases in win over Elmwood Park

Bulldogs wrap up conference play with 9-5 win, sweep over Tigers

BROOKFIELD – After have already clinched the Metro Suburban Conference title, the Riverside Brookfield baseball team ran free on the base paths with no pressure on Thursday.

The Bulldogs wrapped up the MSC Wednesday after winning two from Elmwood Park. RB stole 10 bases in a 9-5 win in the series finale on Thursday.

Leadoff hitter C.J. Duffek was a terror for the Tigers. Duffek was 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, three stolen bases, an RBI and four runs scored.

“It was definitely good to have a good game on senior day,” Duffek said. “Coach gives me green light whenever I feel that I can take a base whether it’s second or third. It’s worked out so far. We’re winning ball games.”

The Bulldogs have been winning lots of ball games. RB finished 16-2 in the MSC and is 29-4 overall heading into Monday’s regular season finale and playoff tune up against Hinsdale South.

“It’s been a really fun year,” said RB coach Dallas Till. “I don’t think anybody, including me or them, expected us to do this well. This doesn’t happen a lot. Approaching 30 victories in high school baseball whoever you’re playing is not easy.”

Senior Thomas Leary joined Duffek as a stat sheet filler. He reached base in all four plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs, two steals and two runs scored. Kevin Garvey was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, two stolen bases and a run scored.
