BOLINGBROOK – Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital will host a free discussion on treating knee and shoulder pain June 6.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. June 6 at the hospital, Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Gregory Markarian will lead a seminar on knee and shoulder pain, discussing new treatment options available for cartilage restoration and joint resurfacing.

“With the various opportunities for care, there is no reason anyone should have to try to live with pain in their shoulder or knee,” Markarian said. “I want to make sure everyone is aware of the different options available.”

In his practice, Markarian uses the arthrosurface approach to knee surgery, which allows physicians to place small implants into small defects in knee cartilage, making it smooth again. Markarian said he has done between 100 and 150 surgeries using this approach.

A diplomat with the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons, Markarian previously served as a consultant to the National Football League’s Miami Dolphins for seven years. He was also head team physician for the XFL’s Chicago Enforcers.
