Mike Wieringa winds up to deliver a pitch in Timothy Christian's regional semifinal win over Westmont Wednesday.

BENSENVILLE - Using just two pitches — a fastball and an ineffective curveball — Timothy Christian junior Mike Wieringa silenced Westmont's bats as the Trojans won 5-1 in a semifinal of the Class 2A IC Catholic Prep regional Wednesday at Redmond Park.

"Today I was basically a one-pitch pitcher," Wieringa said. "The curve has been working for me throughout the year, but today I wasn't feeling it."

TC advanced to face Lisle, a 7-4 winner over IC in the other semifinal, for the regional championship at 12 p.m. Saturday.

The Trojans scored the final five runs of the game: Two in the second, two in the sixth and one in the top of the seventh.

Batting eighth and ninth in the order, respectively, Luke Davidson was 1-for-3 with a run and RBI and Phil Stanton was 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.

Charlie Donovan gave Westmont a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly that plated Ryan Schlicher in the first, but the Sentinels left six men on base the rest of way, four of which were in scoring position. The Sentinels mustered just four hits in the game, never more than one in an inning.
