Published: Thursday, May 16, 2013 6:00 a.m. CDT

WHEATON – The Wheaton Police and Fire Departments will be hosting a blood drive at the police station on Friday, May 17 as part of National Law Enforcement Week, according to a police department release.

Starting at 8:30 a.m. and going through 3:30 p.m., the two departments will work in conjunction with LifeSource Blood Service to operate the drive, that will be participating in Everyday Heroes Police, Fire and EMS Giveback Program. For each donor the event takes in, points are awarded. Upon fulfilling the required donation total, LifeSource plans to donate to the Hundred Points Club – a charity assistance to families of law enforcement and fire personnel who have been killed or injured – based off of the number of donors.

In the release, the police department said that the goal for this even was at least 35 donors. The last event on Sept. 11, 2012 received blood donations from 34 residents.

The police department is located at 900 W. Liberty Drive in Wheaton, and the release advised to direct any questions to Sherry at the Wheaton Police Department at 630-260-4861.
