State Rep. Sandack removes himself from consideration for state GOP chair
DOWNERS GROVE – Illinois state Rep. Ron Sandack bowed out of consideration for chairmanship of the Illinois Republican Party early Wednesday.
The Republican State Central Committee had named him as one of nine finalists being considered for chairman.
Sandack, a former Downers Grove mayor, said the nomination was a "humbling experience" on Tuesday. But after talking with party insiders and Republican activists, he told media outlets Wednesday he decided his pro-gay marriage stance would be too controversial in the role.
