First inning rally propels Lisle to regional win over IC Catholic Prep

Knights score twice in first, but Lions answer with four in a 7-4 win

BENSENVILLE - Facing an IC Catholic Prep team that had its number in recent postseason history, Lisle's baseball team topped the Knights 7-4 Wednesday in a semifinal of the Class 2A IC regional.

Lisle advances to play Timothy Christian, a 5-1 winner over Westmont in Wednesday's other semifinal, for the regional title at 12 p.m. Saturday.

The Knights scored two runs on three hits in the top of the first, but Lisle stormed back with four in the bottom of the frame.

Danny D'Angelo singled and came home on Clark Brinkman's single, and Eric Orosco singled Brinkman home for IC's 2-0 lead.

Lisle laced four hits in its half of the first. Cliff Krause singled and came home on Brian Czyl's single. Kevin Coppin had a three-run double that scored Alex Ventrella, Ryan Van Volkenburg and Czyl for a 4-2 lead. Coppin scored on Jake Oard's single in the third for a 5-2 edge, and Krause scored in the fourth on Van Volkenburg's single and in the sixth on a Ventrella single.

The Knights scored two runs (one earned) in the top of the fourth with Ben Goworowski and Sean Sutton crossing home, but they couldn't generate any more offense.
