DOWNERS GROVE – Firefighters from Downers Grove and five other departments were able to quickly extinguish a house fire Wednesday at 4427 Pershing Ave., but not before it caused extensive damage to the second level, Downers Grove Fire Department Spokesperson Marsha Giesler said.

Downers Grove firefighters received the 911 call at 4:20 p.m. for a fire on the upper level of the home. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the upper level, and made entry into the structure and ventilated the roof. They were able to suppress the fire growth quickly, according to Giesler, and the fire was extinguished before 5 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

Due to the extent of damage to the structure, the family will not be able to move back into the home at this time. Damages are estimated at $175,000.
