Open-air bar coming to Kama Indian Bistro

LA GRANGE – Double the space could mean double the fun at Kama Indian Bistro, which will debut a new bar and expand its cocktail and beer menu when it moves around the corner to its new home at 9 S. La Grange Road in early July.

The move will allow Kama, currently at 8 W. Burlington Ave., to more than double its seating capacity, from 50 to 115. A bigger kitchen will help owner Vikram Singh increase Kama's menu, which could include more weekend specials and more experimenting with the restaurant's from-sratch sauces.

But the most immediate change will be an enlargened bar and lounge area situated near open windows.

"I think the atmosphere is going to be really nice," Singh said.

Kama currently has a bunch of cocktails it can't keep on the menu, Singh said, but they'll be available regularly come mid-summer.

"We want this place to be built on that and really establish that as a strong point of the restaurant," Singh said of his cocktail menu.

Singh said he hopes to open for lunch around 11:30 a.m. from Thursday or Friday through Sunday. He also hopes to stay open until midnight on Friday and Saturday, depending on business. Currently, Kama opens at 3 p.m. on weekends and closes at 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Kama's new location was previously occupied by Cafe 103, which had its lease terminated after a legal battle with the property's owner.
