Lisle to do its part in DuPage River Sweep Saturday
LISLE – Refrigerators, large branches and old bicycles are expected to be among items pulled from the DuPage River's waterways in Lisle this Saturday as part of local efforts for the county-wide 2013 DuPage River Sweep.
From 9 a.m. to noon, volunteers will clean the river's waters at a selected spot in Lisle.
The county-wide River Sweep event is organized by The Conservation Foundation, which is dedicated to preserving open space and natural lands, protecting rivers and watersheds, and promoting stewardship of the environment in northeast Illinois.
Since the event was launched in 1991, more than 8800 volunteers have removed nearly 220 tons of garbage from DuPage County waterways, according to a release.
