La Grange thanks Morsch, Horvath for service to village as they step down from board
LA GRANGE – Village Trustee Mike Horvath and Clerk Thomas Morsch took part in their final meeting as members of the Village Board May 13.
Horvath, who championed fiscal responsibility, lost his reelection bid and is being replaced by David McCarty. Several residents thanked Horvath and questioned the board’s future without his accountability.
“You always did the right thing even if it meant going against a misguided majority,” Kathy Deane said. “You always asked the right questions; ones that certain folks hoped you wouldn’t ask.”
Horvath didn’t see eye-to-eye with many of his colleagues, but, at the end, they lauded him for his professionalism and dedication. Trustee Mark Kuchler estimated that Horvath saved the village’s homeowners hundreds of dollars by asking questions before asking for money.
“We didn’t always agree on things, but there’s one thing I will never fault you on,” Trustee Bill Holder said. “You came to every meeting prepared.”
Morsch, being replaced by John Burns, took over as clerk for Robert Milne in 2011 after Milne stepped down for health reasons.
“There are some people, you wish you would have met them much earlier in life because they’re such an incredible human being,” Trustee Jeff Nowak said. “For me, that’s Tom Morsch.”
