WHEATON – The First Division Museum at Cantigny Park in Wheaton will be hosting an event for Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 18.

The museum celebrates the division famously known as the "Big Red One," one of the most well-known units in the U.S. armed forces and the oldest division in the U.S. Army. Wheaton residents may be familiar with one branch of the First Division, the 18th Infantry Regiment, as adopted citizens of Wheaton back in 2008.

The event begins at 10 a.m. and includes a ceremony to commmission Mitchell R. Whitney into the U.S. Marine Corps, soldier dress for kids, thank you letters to soldiers and veterans, watch a World War II-era dog tag machine press tags and more. Admittance to the event and the museum itself are always free, and parking will be provided.
