LT's Carlson extends scoreless streak in shutout over York

Lion senior has pitched 28 consecutive shutout innings

ELMHURST – Zach Carlson has been a buzz saw lately and York ran into him on Monday.

The Lyons Township senior extended his scoreless inning streak to 28 with a complete game shutout against the Dukes in Elmhurst. LT won 2-0 in the rubber game of the final West Suburban Silver series of the year.

Carlson forced his way into a conference start after building the scoreless streak to 21 innings in four WSC crossover midweek games. He admitted it meant more to earn a conference start.

“It’s conference, it’s always amped up,” Carlson said.

The senior Wisconsin-Stout commit struck out seven and allowed just three hits against the Dukes.

Carlson’s battery mate Sam Heilenbach had both RBIs for LT (20-9, 12-6 WSS). Heilenbach drove in Keith Lehmann with a two-out single in the fourth and scored Lehmann again on a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

The Dukes (14-17, 8-10 WSS) got a quality start from Anthony Santos, who pitched a complete game and allowed just the two runs on six hits.

“He’s been good for us all year,” said York coach Dave Kalal. “We just gotta find a way to get a hit when we need a hit and make a play defensively when we need to make a play. For whatever reason we are struggling doing that. I just hope that we can make a little noise in the playoffs next week and make something happen.”
