Crescent Boulevard extension project set to finish in June

GLEN ELLYN – After the installation of sidewalk along Crescent Boulevard in Glen Ellyn was delayed last fall, the project is set to be completed in June, according to emails from village officials to residents in the area.

Former Village President Mark Pfefferman sent an email to residents in early May, letting them know Public Works Director Julius Hansen had responded to their requests for a project update.

In his response, Hansen said the project is at the top of the village's priority list, and the contractor would be continuing the project this month.

The sidewalk installation was delayed in November mainly due to weather considerations. At that time, underground work for the project had been completed, and the work zone was readied for winter.

In an email from Pfefferman about the delay, he said it would also allow for meetings with corridor residents to evaluate options for possibly extending the sidewalk to the Lombard border, although that extension would not be installed at the same time as the sidewalk that has already been approved by the village board.

In addition to those meetings, the Village of Glen Ellyn also hosted an open house in early March to gather public input on a series of proposed improvements to Crescent Boulevard between Park Boulevard and Riford Road that would be made at a later date.

Improvements being considered include:

• Realignment of Crescent Boulevard at Park Boulevard• A traffic signal at Crescent and Park boulevards• A multi-use path between Park and Ellyn avenues• New parallel parking between Park and Ellyn avenues• New medians, possibly including landscaping• New sidewalks and parking lanes between Ellyn Avenue and Park Row• Intersection improvements at Crescent Boulevard and Crescent Court.
