WEST CHICAGO – Graphic design students from Wheaton Academy in West Chicago are competing against nine other schools for a spot in the 2013 Vans Custom Culture shoe design contest finals.
Wheaton Academy was chosen from nearly 1,500 schools nationally to be one of the contest's 50 semifinalists. Now, the academy faces off against other schools in the Northeast Region to represent that region in the finals.
A winner from each of the contest's five regions will be determined through online voting. These schools will send their students and shoes to New York City this summer to compete for a $50,000 prize, as well as a $10,000 prize from Journeys.
Awards support the visual art programs at the schools. Vans may produce and sell the winning shoe designs.
