Riverside Brookfield High School student approached by stranger on Maple Avenue

BROOKFIELD – Authorities with the Brookfield Police Department and Riverside Brookfield High School are reaching out to parents to remind them to speak with their children about the hazards of interacting with people they don't know.

A 18-year-old student at RBHS told police that she noticed an older model red convertible with a white/cream top in the 3400 block of Maple Avenue at about 6 p.m. Thursday, police said. When the student arrived at Maple and Grant avenues, the car pulled to the west side of Maple Avenue and parked.

A man exited the car, approached the student and asked her if she would like to help him sell cars by posing in a bikini, police said. The man said he was not hitting on her because he was married, adding that he and his wife were trying to sell cars in magazines, police said.

The man asked the student if she was 18, but she misled him about her personal information and told him she was 16, not 18, hoping he would leave her alone, police said. The man complimented her on her body and said she looks like she works out, police said.

The student shook hands with the man, and he followed her and asked if she had a boyfriend, police said. She said that she did have a boyfriend, and he said that her boyfriend was a lucky man, police said.

The student met her boyfriend at Brookfield Avenue, and they observed the man drive by southbound across the railroad tracks, police said. The student also told police that she and her boyfriend later saw the red convertible drive by again at the Eight Corners intersection, police said.

The man was described as Hispanic, between 35 and 45 years of age, 5-foot 5-inches tall, between 150 and 160 pounds with dark short hair, wearing sunglasses, a dark polo short and khaki pants, police said.

Authorities want to remind parents to speak with their children about what to do if they are approached by a stranger and to be aware of their surroundings when outside.
