WESTERN SPRINGS – As expected, the Lyons Township girls track and field team put on a dominating display Friday as sectional hosts.
The Lions won the meet with a whopping 226 points and qualified 21 entries to the Class 3A state meet. Second-place Mother McAuley came in well behind with 91.4 points.
Sophomore Emma Haugen qualified in all three jumps and the 100-meter high hurdles. Haugen is the defending state champ in the high jump.
All four relays also qualified for state, including wins from the 4x400 and 4x800.
Senior Makayla Hubbard continued her unbeaten season in the shot put with a first-place throw of 40 feet, 2 inches. Hubbard qualified with the ninth-best throw in Class 3A and will be among the favorites to qualify for the state finals in the shot put.
Other winners included Grace Flynn (pole vault), Jessica Stabnow (high jump), Haley Prokaski (3,200), Miranda Speir (800), Sarah Kreikemeier (400), Amy Bazzoni (300 hurdles) and Vanessa Flaherty (1,600).
Also qualifying were Erin Szczepaniak (triple jump), Hannah Dutler (3,200), Mayra Baeza (100), Elaine Smith (800), Natalie Jaramillo (1,600).
