Glenbard South math team places 3rd at state math meet

GLEN ELLYN – The Glenbard South High School math team placed third in the 3AA division of the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) state math contest May 4 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Glenbard South placed in the top 10 in all 12 events. The team is coached by Nora Rizo, Bob Dobosz and Haresh Harpalani. Glenbard South's awards included: 

Individual awards:• Pre-Calculus – Andrew Bean (seventh place)

• Geometry – Numaan Mahmood (fourth place) and Tyler Yam (sixth place)

Team awards:

• Geometry – second place: Tyler Yam, Claire Weesner, Chris Bean, Numaan Mahmood, Brendan Colgan and Matt Skarha

• Junior/Senior Two-Person – fourth place: Andrew Bean and Sean Cates

• Freshman/Sophomore Relay Teams One and Two – tied for fifth place: Team One: Brendan Colgan, Neal Choksi, Avinash Panjwani and Hajira Ashfaq and Team Two: Robert Ciechowski, Michael Strohl, Grace Rose and Marko Ivancevic

• Orals Team – sixth place: Madelyn Nelson and Rahim Shareef

• Algebra II Team – sixth place: Ryne Recchia, Priyanka Panjwani, Stephen Robinson, Nisha Choksi, Jennifer Lipa and Paige Jacobson

• Pre-Calculus Team – seventh place: Andrew Bean, Sean Cates, Madelyn Nelson, Amar Shah, Robert Glahe and Michelle Volk

• Freshman/Sophomore Eight-Person Team – seventh place: Tyler Yam, Nathan McWilliams, Numaan Mahmood, Neal Choksi, Johann Gan, Michael Strohl, Avinash Panjwani and Kiran Sandiford

• Algebra I Team – eighth place: Johann Gan, Andrew Pen, Kiran Sandiford, Avinash Panjwani, Michael Strohl and Hajira Ashfaq

• Calculator Team – eighth place: Madelyn Nelson, Sean Cates, Stephen Robinson, Daniel Kalski and Grace Rose

• Junior/Senior Eight-Person Team – eighth place: Andrew Bean, Amar Shah, Robert Glahe, Ryne Recchia, Jennifer Lipa, Priyanka Panjwani, Paige Jacobson and Franco Pescatore

• Junior/Senior Relay Team One – eighth place: Amar Shah, Robert Glahe, Ryne Recchia and Stephen Robinson

• Freshman/Sophomore Two-Person Team – tenth place:  Numaan Mahmood and Tyler Yam
