Clutch hits propel Glenbard West to win over LT
Hilltoppers beat conference rival Lions 4-1
GLEN ELLYN – Neither Lyons Township nor Glenbard West has been consistent this spring.
The big hit has eluded both teams at times throughout the season.
On Friday in Glen Ellyn, it was the Hilltoppers that got the hits when needed in a 4-1 win over the visiting Lions.
LT (16-10, 4-5 West Suburban Silver) stranded the bases loaded in the fourth. The Hilltoppers (13-12, 7-4 WSS) got a big bases loaded hit in the fifth from Rachel Terwilliger to score two runs and break a 1-1 tie.
“We just didn’t get the key hits,” said LT coach Dawn Schabacker. “Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t.”
“We just haven’t been real consistent early on, but I think now we’re starting to finally get in our groove,” said West coach Mary McGrane. “I’d rather have it now than early on and lose it with the postseason coming up fast in a couple weeks.”
Emi Pavia had a two out RBI single in the sixth to extend the Hilltoppers’ lead.
The clutch hits helped loosen up winning pitcher Taylor Langtry, who had eight strike outs in a complete game.
LT starter Ashley Koziol also had eight strikeouts in the loss. Stefanie D’Anna had LT’s lone RBI.
